Occlusion, bruxism and ATM
Bruxism is the habit of clenching and / or grinding teeth. It usually occurs during sleep, although there are patients who also do it during the day. This generates irreversible tooth wear. It is essential to place a night discharge splint, which we make individualised for each patient and thus protects the teeth, preventing their deterioration.
Some patients also present muscular overload of the masticatory muscles, with clicking and / or pain in the temporomandibular joint and / or problems with opening the mouth at maximum opening. It is necessary to carry out indicated exercises to re-educate the chewing pattern that, together with the discharge splint, will reduce these symptoms. In the most serious cases it may be necessary to administer medication, even resorting to surgery.
